CopyExport Manager

Automation, Auditing and Comprehensive Reporting for TS7740 Copy Export

OpenTech Systems' CopyExport Manager (CEM) is a parameter driven software product which runs under z/OS and automates IBM's TS7740 copy export (CE) process. CEM may be used in either a TS7740 stand-alone or grid configuration and automates the CE process by eliminating the need for REXX coding to implement CE. CEM automates the CE processes required to make copies of tape datasets and export them from the TS7740 for shipment to the vault. CEM also provides several additional features to audit the entire export process and creates a database to track logical to physical relationships, provide extensive reporting, and ensure a successful recovery.

Automates the copy export process

CEM dynamically allocates a virtual volume in the TS7740 and writes the 3 files required to control the CE process.

Starts and monitors the copy export process

Not all critical data resides on disk. CEM ensures the resources necessary to begin the CE process are available and then issues the console command to start CE.

Integrates copy export processes and normal tape management procedures

CEM provides the option to manage the CE tape vaulting process using your normal tape management system house keeping procedures to eject and vault the CE tapes along with any native tapes that need to be vaulted.

Audits the copy export results and reports exceptions

The CEM audit process determines which tape datasets should be on the CE tapes and provides reports to verify that they have been copied and exported to the vault.

Ensures copy export tapes required for recovery have been created

The CEM audit process will report tape datasets that should be on the CE tapes and provides an exception report for all tape datasets that are not on a CE tape.

Provides local recovery of TS7740 back-end tapes

When a primary physical tape is damaged or lost, CEM can create a pull list of CE tapes that contain all the logical volumes needed to rebuild the primary tape or recover individual datasets.

Provides complete dataset cross reference reports

The CE tape datasets are cross referenced to the logical virtual volume and the virtual volumes are cross referenced to the TS7740 physical tapes including CE physical tapes

Reclaims expired CE tapes

CEM automatically initiates the CE process to reclaim Copy Export tapes. The CEM reclaim process is controlled by the user defined percentage of utilization and/or the number of CE tapes in use.

Detects and Reports Errors

CEM monitors the CE process and traps error messages that otherwise may be lost in the thousands of console messages generated during normal processing.
