Populate and maintain virtual tape libraries
Tape/Copy can automate the migration of data into a new VTS to help you realize the benefit of virtual tape sooner. It also allows data to be moved quickly between to virtual devices to optimize capacity and enhance VTL performance.
Enhance ATL and VTL performance
Tape/Copy jobs can be used to automatically move "idle" data out of your ATL by copying it to an outside tape without requiring that the tape be physically ejected from the ATL. It can also copy large data files off of virtual tape to native tape to ensure optimum use of your virtual tape space.
Maximize ROI of tape media investment
Tape/Copy's intelligent stacking capabilities allow you to not only select the data to stack, but also specify the desired utilization percentage of the stacked tape.
Tape/Copy also allows users to sort the stacked data by expiration date, group the datasets by creating application and more.
Ensure data integrity
Tape/Copy provides ESTAE protection for the conversion process to ensure that if a copy operation fails (I/O errors, missing multi-volume datasets, etc.), the user if not forced to perform manual clean-up of the catalog and TMC. Tape/Copy will back out all changes to the tape so that it is in pre-conversion status.
Process most proprietary dataset formats
Why use a separate product for copying each proprietary dataset format you produce?
Tape/Copy can process: - DFSMShsm
- ABARS
- FDR backups
- DFSMSdss
- CA-View (SAR)
and others.
All tape media formats supported
Tape/Copy can automate the conversion of tape datasets from any tape media or device, to any other tape media or device. Quickly convert old technology tape media to new, higher density media.
Forecast your tape needs
Tape/Copy's extensive reporting features include a comprehensive forecasting report that can be used estimate media, time, and other needs while planning a conversion or migration project.
Retain important dataset information
Tape/Copy copies the field of the tape management catalog from the input record to the output record to preserve the dataset name, creation date/time and last used date/time information. Tape/Copy also makes all required system catalog updates.
Prevent Backend Tape Thrashing
Tape/Copy is able to use VTS volume information gathered from the IBM VTS Bulk Volume Information Retrieval (BVIR) facility to prevent backend tape thrashing when processing many tapes from a VTS by processing datasets in backend volume order.
